Located in Lofthouse, in the heart of Upper Nidderdale, Fern Cottage offers comfortable and cosy accommodation for 4 to 6 people in 3 bedrooms.
Whether it’s beautiful moorland walks, cycling or outdoor adventure you are after there are numerous options on the doorstep.
The cottage is fully equipped for all your self catering needs, but is also within a stone’s throw of the local pub serving hearty Yorkshire pub meals and a local brew, or you could take the short walk up the hill to the Crown Hotel in picturesque Middlesmoor perched on the hill.
Staying at Fern Cottage
We have furnished Fern Cottage to a high standard to make your stay as comfortable as possible, each room is cosy, uncluttered and welcoming. The lounge has a log burning stove for those colder evenings and outside there is a south facing patio area to soak up some sunshine and watch the world go by.

Rightly proud of its place within the Dales, Nidderdale is for many their favourite Dale. It truly deserves its status as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, with its stunning moorland scenery and tapestry of lush green meadows. There’s loads to do and see right on the doorstep.
Our sustainable commitment
We are committed to reducing our carbon footprint and being as sustainable as possible so you can visit Fern Cottage knowing you are doing you bit to minimise your carbon footprint.
All electricity is from renewable sources, we are electric vehicle friendly with charging available and very soon we have plans to convert to BioGas once it is available in the local area.
All the toiletries and cleaning products we use are eco friendly and we are committed to reducing or eliminating single use plastics wherever possible.
About the Owners
Hi, I’m Neil! I’m an engineer, drummer, bread baker and brewer of variable quality beer.
Hi, I’m Lucy! I’m a primary school teacher, avid book reader, hill walker and I love practicing pilates.
We both emigrated from the West Country to Yorkshire in ’99 and now have two teenage yorkshire lads. We have always loved bringing the boys to the dales and have a particular soft spot for Nidderdale with it’s wild scenery, family activities, great pubs and friendly locals.
We purchased Fern Cottage in 2020 and hope to share the experience of spending time in this wonderful part of the world with you.
